My adventure in Dolomites

After four years at the end of September I got an opportunity to visit this magical peace of earth again, Dolomites. It is squeezed between the seaside Venice & the Austrian border. In Italy, thus.
Already after an hour of busride sharp mountaintops were popping up more & more. I am in Dolomites again, no doubt about it. And the excitement rose!
After two & a half an hour a ride I was in Cortina d'Ampezzo the first stop of my trip.

The place was surrounded by the fairytale like mountains. But I had to go on to the end point of my trip: Auronzo hut at The Three Peaks (Tre Cime, Drei Zinnen). It was only 20km away from Cortina. But the changes in temperature, vegetation, landscapes, general atmosphere couldn't be more striking. When I left Venice 3 hours ago we had mild autumn weather with temperature of 24 degrees. And here, we got snow falling with fog & temperature of 3 degrees!

When we reached approximately 1800m of altitude there was no vegetation anymore. Just barren sharp rocks formed by many thousands of years of volcanic activity. This is when you really get that mixed feeling of utter excitement but also of discomfort with unforgiving power of nature. And when we reached the place I thought to my self: ''There we are on the Moon again, hooray!". Auronzo hut at 2330m was my home for next 4 days.
